Improve Pesticide Performance

Posted:  Sep 19, 2014

For years surfactants have been included to improve pesticide performance in a variety of applications, such as weed control. Surfactants reduce the surface tension of liquid, which allows the liquid to spread out over a larger surface. More control results when pesticide comes in contact with more surface area. On average, surfactants typically improve pesticide performance five to 10 percent.

Until recently, these advantages were not available to applicators applying pesticides indoors. Fears of staining surfaces, causing other damage or creating an inhalation hazard have prevented surfactants from moving indoors. Over the past several years, Winfield has developed a formulation that is non-staining, does not damage stain guards and is not an inhalation risk, but at the same time provides the benefits of standard surfactants. Recently, our team succeeded in creating Wick™ adjuvant, which has all of those benefits.

Wick™ adjuvant is a surfactant that is designed to be mixed with common pesticides that are applied indoors. Our research shows that adding Wick™ adjuvant to an application increases spreading by an average of 75 percent compared to pesticide alone. This increased spreading leads to increased pest control, and can eliminate unwanted guests.

Research Demonstrates Improved Control

In a study conducted at Texas A&M, bed bugs were treated with deltamethrin and deltamethrin plus Wick™ adjuvant. Forty-eight hours after treatment, samples treated with Wick™ adjuvant had 12.3 percent more kill than those with deltamethrin alone. After almost 10 university studies completed with Wick™ adjuvant, we are seeing similar five to 10 percent improvements, just as we do with standard surfactants.

Numerous pest control companies have started to add Wick™ adjuvant to their mixes on indoor sprays because the improved control leads to fewer callbacks and more satisfied customers. To learn more, visit Wick™.
